Book Gathering: Imagination, A Manifesto

What if the energies of love and imagination were understood and respected as powerful social forces?

Spark Action Lab is hosting a virtual community conversation inspired by the ideas in Imagination: A Manifesto by Ruha Benjamin, exploring what they might mean for the practice of supporting young people. Imagining a world without youth homelessness seems impossible, but the destructive ideas that have trapped us in a reality where it’s prevalent also emerged from human imagination. To disrupt this status quo and envision a world where all young people have love, shelter, and community requires us to work collectively and suspend notions that “things are just the way they are.” Imagination is not a luxury, it’s a necessary resource for bringing a new reality to life and creating a society where all young people can thrive.

Strong communities don’t happen by accident. They’re built through small, steady practices of care and responsibility. This gathering is one small spark in that work.

This book is a short and easy read (135 pages), perfect for summer. And you do not have to read the whole book to participate! Read what you can and come as you are - we just want to be together, embracing love and imagination as the powerful forces they are.
